Minnesota, Miners, and Mesothelioma: The new 3M?
News articles now make it clear that many Iron Range mine workers in Northern Minnesota were exposed to asbestos or other harmful materials that are causing many new cases of mesothelioma lung cancer to be diagnosed. Because this lung cancer takes up to 40 years to show symptoms, officials expect this problem to increase for many years to come. With the aging of the older workforce in Minnesota we may see this problem reach numbers that dwarf those of other areas like Libby, Montana. Minnesota health officials did not comment on how this problem will be addressed in the future and how the tremendous medical cost will be paid for.
